Katy, one of the girls taking part said “It was great fun making my mask and I liked that we got to use old boxes and bits of materials which put them to good use. I was nervous about taking part in the parade in fornt of lots of people but once I had my mask on no-one could see me.

Alice one of Embassy’s volunteers who is working towards becoming qualified in Youth work supported the team as they went from activity to activity and was impressed by how the team pulled together. Team Embassy won the purple trophy for coming last and best sportsmanship. Well done guys!!!!

Two members from the Embassy Youth Centre are putting their self-mastered skills to use in order to teach others that share their passion for “tricking” whilst gaining a bronze in the Arts Award, a nationally recognised qualification.

Through Arts Award at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels, young people aged 11-25  can explore any of the art forms including performing arts, visual arts, literature, media and multimedia. The award builds confidence, helps young people to enjoy cultural activities, and prepares them for further education or employment.

Our two members both share a love for Tricking which is is the informal name of a relatively new underground alternative sport movement, combining martial arts, gymnastics and other activities to create an “aesthetic blend of flips, kicks, and twists. Their aim is to produce a selection of You Tube tutorials aimed at young people interested in the sport. They have already created quite a stir at our Parkour sessions with them often teaching other members new skills.

Up to this point they have created their story board, discussed the tricks they are going to demonstrate and started filming. The videos are going to include health and safety tips, how to warm up and cool down and a selection of crazy outtakes as well as the tutorials themselves.

They are using Embassy’s state of the art Mac media suite to edit their video.

Anyone that has been to the Embassy will know that the kitchen and coffee bar are the focal point of our facility so this new addition will certainly be welcomed by members of all ages. The new design incorporates an extra fridge, more cupboard space and extra work surface giving us more space for cooking projects, cake making, smoothie nights and our healthy dinner evenings.

At Embassy we just know that the finished result is going to look great so keep checking back over the course of the week and follow the teams progress.

Day One

The old kitchen has been cleared ready for the workmen to start demolishing the old units, and removing the floor.

The cupboards have now been stripped out to reveal the wall and pipes, this is where the sink used to be!

The shiny new kitchen is delivered ready for day 2 everything including the kitchen sink!

Day Two

The entrance to the coffee bar has been enlarged to give disabled access

The shells of the new kitchen units begin to be fitted by the carpenter who follows the designs so he knows where everything is going.

The back entrance to the coffee bar area has now been blocked up and the plumber has fitted the new pipe work ready for the sink to be installed

Day Three

The new cupboards, fitted with doors & handles and the gas cooker and sink are ready to be connected by the plumber

The bottom set of cupboards now in place ready for the tuck shop to be fitted.
